We offer this resource as a curated starting point for families with the experience and knowledge of our BKR team ready to assist you as needed in your school placement journey.

The following is a selected list of schools in the Greater Boston area that specialize in Dyslexia and/or Language Based Learning Differences (LBLD) or offer various types of support specific to a student’s learning needs. Schools are separated into categories, which range from the highest level of support to out of state broader special education programs.

HIGH SUPPORT

Specialized instruction that is integrated across all content areas and is matched to the instructional level of the child throughout the day.

HIGH SUPPORT – CHAPTER 766

Chapter 766 schools (now Mass general law Ch 71B) are DESE (Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education) approved for an out of district placement when a student is not able to receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) in their home district.

MODERATE SUPPORT – COHORT MODEL

Specialized instruction that is matched to the instructional level of the child throughout certain cohort class periods during the day.

Specific supports and accommodations are commonly offered to many students with diverse learning profiles at the school. Specialized instruction may be offered, at times for an additional cost.

MINIMAL SUPPORT – TAILORED

Various supports and accommodations are offered specific to the learning profile of each student and the resources available to the school.
